I'm torn....yet another college thread
« on: January 03, 2009, 12:29:04 pm »
I really want to go to PSU and I was one of the selected few at my school to become a viking instantly.. literally they come to the school and if you are serious and your grades are good you're in instantly.
me, i get to write my statement of circumstances because i had bad grades and lost a father at my old school then tranferred and had a night and day change in my grades.
@PSU:I can major in business and minor in designmanagement.
but I want to be in a textiles(sewing) classes...and they have sports and choir >_<~<3 ($20,000)
Art schools are private and ungodly more expensive
Art instatute:i wanna cry its expensive. but provides fashion design and managament..but i wanna do media design too... asnd they have it as well... but thats alot of classes...... and very spendy..($48,000)
OCAC:less spend but private exclusive collage witha textiles major... but no business/management classes.... ($35,000)
All are rounded estimated numbers: most include room and board.
and then again i also want to do cosmetology.
i'd go to paul mitchell. I love doing hair and make-up and these people travel and get paid well! price is cheaper but i can't quite remember because online the prices aren't shown but you ask for a brochure thing and they give you it by mail with class prices and what not.....

Can't vouch for the other colleges but The Art Institute is an awesome school if you are prepared to work really, really hard and learn. It may be expensive but I've already seen a lot of improvement in just 2 quarters of school. The workload is really hard though and from what I'm seeing I'm doing more work then my friends that are in general colleges. You can get a lot of help with money, jobs and stuff. If you really want to try for it you should call up and schedule an appointment with one of the Registration people.

Try to live at home or not in the college apartments. They suck and cost way too much.
WHY DO THE FORUMS SUCK SO BAD?

Well the sad reality is that 80% of what we learn in school is not used in a career.

The post college reality is that the degree is just what gets someone in the door.  Almost always have to be specially trained by the place one will be working.  I have a friend that went to art institute of portland and through a series of events was expelled due to bad grades.  He ended up going to PSU but still has these massive loans and no degree to show for it.

well i'm staying at home. i was just stating i didn't take those payments out of the total.

well your friend seems a bit lazy on his grades. I'm taking a 5th year of high school to make up completely for my bad grades of the past.

i know i'll get scholorship money for lack of 2 living parents.... i only have one.
and i will finish collage. unlike mother whom dropped out. father never went. nor did either of his parents. but mom's did...and they did each other while there and accidently got knocked up married and divorced..Yay for random useless fact time....yay!...

Well, things happen, life doesn't fit in a university's scheduling that's all.  And I'm not fond of a education system that'll take tens of thousands of dollars used to get someone in dept and then kick someone when life happens and sets them back.

Yet all that schools ask for is responsibility. No matter what happens in life people are expecting you to push is aside and put out. That goes for everything, not just schools. Blame can't really be put on the school for poor grades, that would be the student's fault. When I was in college things happened and I probably wasn't the most mental stable person there, but I still worked hard and graduated with like a 3.5 or something. Sorry for the random rambling.

My advice, although may be not good, is to go where you really want to go and worry about the money later. Yeah you might have a bunch of loans and stuff, but it's where you truly will be happy that matters. I'm kind of in the same boat right now with trying to find grad schools.

I have a few things to say. First and foremost, I'm bias. I'm currently enrolled at PSU, and I like the idea of having more people (like us) at PSU. I love it here. The professors I've encountered here enjoy teaching, and actually care about if a student is learning or not. I'm getting help from all sorts of sources, which has really shown in my grades (I got B's in all of my classes instead of C's).

SageBell, if you do decide to go to PSU, I suggest that you get into the EOP (Education Opportunities Program). From the sound of things, you would be able to get into it no problem. They have a scholarship that you could apply for (if you get accepted into the program). You are assigned an adviser, who will help you out however they can. You can register early for classes. And they have a program over the summer called the Bridges Program, which I attended over the summer. It's REALLY helpful. It will help you get ahead of the learning curve when your first term starts, it gives you a LOT of helpful information, AND you get 3 credits out of it.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I could even get you in touch with one of the people in charge there.

Not to shoot you down, but I've heard a lot of bad things about The art Institute. Like HUGE money loan issues and whatnot.
Buuut, who am I to say?
It's just what I've heard from a lot of my art friends and other art students who ended up transferring to PSU. :-\

PCC is a little cheaper then PSU (not much last I checked) but the advantage of PCC is that none of the teachers are uber profs that are there to get research grants and dealing with students is just a hassle they cant take back.  However, one of the mistakes I made was not checking what I needed at PSU and what actually would transfer.  I think in the 200 writing sequence at PCC only 2 out of the 3 transfer so I think I was just wasting my time with writing 222 or something like that, so make sure to do your homework before reg.

i'm currently studying at psu, but know nothing about the departments you are looking at.  one thing is for sure, i meet alot of people there going for a business degree, so i guess it must be good on that side of the fence.

as for pcc, went there, make sure you look at psu requirements and take care of those at pcc, i didn't and it cost me money and time,  if you can coordinate both correctly, you should move along pretty fast and cut down education costs...  hell, they have a co-enrollment program if you are interested

do you have any idea how you are going to get the money?

Also on Myspace there is a friend that posted a bulletin asking for models. Not sure if that would be something you are interested in. If you are I can send you the link.

So many girls have had your dream, and so many girls ended up being waitresses in NY.

wait, but if men and women don't flirt with each other... then how are we to know there is mutual interest?  i can see your point, because i kind of get a similar feeling when a man flirts with me, but i just make my cold shoulder obvious so they live me alone....

so, if you don't like getting flirted on by guys, how should they go about expressing their interest?

what if they don't want you to flirt with them?  in theory, you are doing to them as you odn't want them to do unto you...  isn't that a bit on the hypocritical side of things?  after all, you are never expected to flirt back at somebody
