Cosplay guns?
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:28:51 pm »
Anyone know of a good place to get cosplay appropriate guns? Any stores in the area or online sites would be lovely. I found a good site but I don't know how long until they get a new shipment of the guns that I need to alter.
Thanks for any suggestions in advance ^^
It's all greatly appreciated, trust me  ;)

What type of guns? There are some good sites, but it depends on what kind of gun you're looking for.

Oh yeah haha, that would probably be good to post a picture of the type I'm looking for. Something along the lines of this:

I'm still looking but I'll just warn you ahead of time, as far as I know, there aren't any guns allowed at Kumoricon, in any fashion. I'm pretty sure they decided a solid no against guns in any incarnation, but I may be wrong.

Either way, I'll still try to find you some links.

Here's one I found so far:

Seriously? Not even toy guns that you could buy at a toy store? Not even orange capped ones?
Weird. Oh well, I'm making it for sakuracon.
Thanks for the links though. Every bit helps  :)

No, that was no airsoft, unless it had been gutted and pretty much filled with cement/glue/resin/whatever to make it completely unusable and had the orange tip still.

As for that gun, it looks like a Beretta M9..so if you want to be super accurate you can find a replica off that model. I actually have an airsoft version of that exact gun, only difference between the two is the grip on the slide (the top part you pull back to load the gun). I think I spent like $30 on it?

Though I don't think Sakura-con would allow it even if it was filled with resin like mine is.

I suppose that depends on how accurate you want it to be and/or how much work you'll need to put into it.

Here's the one I am talking about: http://www.hobbytron.com/SpringBerettaM92FSPistolFPS260AirsoftGun.html

Yep, that looks a lot like it  :o
I'm going to have to find a replica of it that I can bring then. Here's the one I'm on the waiting-list for btw. It's not completely accurate but ::shrug::. It's actually a toy gun though:

I guess I'll have to look at the sakuracon weapons policy to see what is absolutely NOT allowed.

As stated before I think the best way would be to buy a squirt gun and paint that whatever colors you need it to be. I think it looks realistic and it isn't too big of a deal if it breaks or gets lost, they don't cost too much :P

That gun would work..though you'd need to make it so it can't fire, as all functional projectile weapons are banned from Sakura-con.

@princessmoon: No, guns are allowed...just not airsoft (or real ones obviously). Unless gutted and filled with resin/glue/cement as stated before.

gutting and filling a gun seems like so much work >_> Most squirt guns looks enough like the real thing except for the fact that they are typically bright colors XD

Wait, so what you're saying is that so long as I clean them out and make it to where it can't fire, then I could use it? Is this acceptable at both Sakura and kumori?
Oh, lastly if it is acceptable at sakuracon, is it mandatory to leave the orange tip?
I have gone the squirt gun way before but I'm trying to go more so for accuracy this year, even though it's a bit more expensive than the dollar store. :D

there is a weapons policy on the sakuracon forums. I'm sure this question has already been answered. http://scmb.sakuracon.org/viewtopic.php?t=17472

It's actually not that much work..I spent maybe 10 minutes doing it to mine. Filled the whole thing with hot glue.

According to the Sakura-con policies, yeah. As long as SAS knows it is nonfunctioning it will get peace bonded. Same thing with Kumoricon unless something changes this year. And I believe you do have to leave the orange tip. You could always make something to cover it for photoshoots though.

And I would go read through that thread linked in the one nikki posted.

Hot glue would work well I guess. But don't air soft guns cost more than squirt guns?

::looks through sakura policy thread:: Well, it kind of gave an answer  :-\
Kind of like either it's not accepted at all if it looks like it might be projectile, or that replicas must be holstered at all times regardless of the fact that it's completely disabled. My character doesn't have gun holsters though...
Baaahhh, I need a non projectile replica gun site.

Really? Then I'm confused right now xD
If I could be allowed to get those replicas then I'd alter the hell out of them to make them non projectile. There's gotta be some way to make this work.  :-\

Yeah, only reason I did it is because I had the gun already and did it for demonstration purposes for the yojimbo/other staff :P

The holster thing does raise a question. If you want I'll ask about that for you (unless you've got that approval nonsense figured out). Where does he keep the gun at anyway? Is he like Sousuke from FMP! and keeps it in his belt/pants on the back?

One thing I have noticed is that the "holstered pistols" rule isn't really enforced at Sakura-con, as there are always people with their pistols out. What I would do is figure out where to "holster" it and only take it out for pictures.

I figure it might be ok for pictures but it would be good to ask staff. Did you ever get you approval for the forum? If you did then you could send them a message and ask.

@nikkiolie
Sadly, I'm still waiting for them to reply to the e-mail I sent.

@ Trumby
Well, he usually has them out at all times. I don't think they're ever holstered.
I'm pretty sure you understand all of what I'm trying to figure out and since I still haven't been forum approved (::heavy sigh::), I'd really appreciate it if you could ask them >,<
Thanks so much! ;O;

Posted ^-^ We'll see what kind of answer they can give now. If worse comes to worse and they don't allow it you can always just take them to the park for a photoshoot (as that's not actually "con" property and you can have them there).

They're training guns and aren't loadable, nor is the trigger even able to pull (from what it looks like):

you may have to add an orange tip but I would ask. I don't see it as a problem.
