I've noticed that there are a lot of Anime fans out there who use the term Otaku to describe themselves and others who are fans of Anime, Manga, and Cosplay. I've never really understood the term behind it until I looked it up. In Japan, Otaku is generally an insult! It means something along the lines of 'creepy, obsessive loner who rarely leaves the house.' according to Wikipedia. I know, I know, NEVER TRUST WIKI GOSH DESU. /sarcasm. But! There are other sites that have told me the same thing.

In America though, Otaku means.. ah.. well whatever it means over here. I'm not really sure. A fan of Anime and Manga, I guess. :0 I just think it's really interesting how some of us know its true meaning, and how others aren't aware.

no it is a bad term. I am taking japanese and my teacher always tells me it isn't a good term.

it does mean someone who is obsessive. usually only put with people who enjoy anime or video games. but people in japan do use them for themselves but they don't say it right out.

I never call myself or my friends otaku because I don't think I'm that much of a loser

To me an otaku is that one weird, fat, sweaty guy who never changes out of his favorite anime T-shirt, sits at his computer all day, and is only happy when he adds new figures to his creepy lifeless collection. Or, maybe that's a bit extreme xD

Yeah, that's kind of why I've never considered myself "otaku". I sort of have a life outside of anime and cosplay

But then again, I'm not the type to run around screaming "OMG KAWAII YAOI NEKO YATTAAAAA". Okay, well only when I'm making fun.

But that's TOOOOOTALLY different than being serious. Haha.

Yeaaaahh! So other people do understand. I didn't think I was the only one who felt slightly insulted or frowned whenever someone called themselves or the entire group Otaku's. :-O

That girl is terrifying. I put her on someone's team, but I can't remember who's team I put her on..

I know the meaning of the word, and I have never used the term to describe myself.
But yeah, it does have a different meaning over here. Us Americans are funny people.

I'm watching that video now.

Edit: It sounds more like she's saying "kowai" than "kawaii." And I love the way she eats with chopsticks. XDD

One thing that makes me Lol is that she looks a LOT like someone I know but she would probably kill this girl after the first 10 seconds of this video...completely opposite people...it's crazy.
