@Rem

Sorry I didn't scroll up far enough

That is from In the Mouth of Madness, which is one of my all time favortie movies. Kind of an obscure scence, but I love when Sam Neil is driving at night and he closes his eyes for a second and when he opens them its full daylight.

Yay, Pepito! You were who I figured would get that quote! BTW I was at the most recent General Meeting, were you?

Meantime dear. You forgot to post a new quote!

For the interim here's one:

"Ah, the direct approach. I admire that, from a man in a mask."

From the same movie, but a different performer within the movie:

"Life's a bitch. Now, so am I."

@ REM, is that Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, in one of those Tim Burton Batman films?

No one has gotten the quote I posted? "Don't F^&K wif me mang!" for a clue Michelle Pfeiffer was in this film.

@REM no i missed the meeting :( I found out about it in too short of notice. I heard Robert got Ops Director though...

@JAY - Umm I'ma guess Scarface, but that line can be in a bajillion movies ;)

Anyway - I did post a new quote

"You have two choices. Drive your car into the lake.... or I dislocate your elbow."

Yes, that was Scarface, the Al Pacino film, and not this one, which I have never seen. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023427/ I thought using the word "mang" would have identified it well enough, as I have not heard anyone use mang for the word man before in film.

Still nothing on my quote?  Here is a hint.  Final episode of the series was released as a sub this week by crustyroll.

I just started watching a new anime series one of the Anime Friday members was telling me about.  I read this line on the fansub and just had to share it.

Main Character: Ruriko-chan, watch me.  I'll do what the Love Me Section is supposed to do.
Ruriko: What do you mean?
Main Character: Oh, my!  Have you forgotten my job?  My job is to make a shadow and protect you from the sun, right?  So...  What I mean is that, even if you are in showbiz, I'll send you someplace where the sun doesn't shine.

Such a nice play on words.  I love it!

Even though it's a series, I'll go ahead and answer it.  Gate Keepers.

Yes, that is correct, Catwoman said the 2nd quote (and Penguin said the first) in Batman Returns.

Nope.  Not Gate Keepers.  Want to try again?  Another hint:  This quote is the last line in one episode, and repeated at the beginning of the next.

Really?  It's the only anime that I know of that has a character named Ruriko in it.  (Of course I've never seen it, so I had no idea if that quote was in it or not).

Wait a sec, wasn't there one in Skip Beat! named Ruriko?  I think there was, or something like that.  It's been awhile, and I was watching it with subtitles, which for me it takes more repetition to get names down that way.

"There's your confirmation."

No takers on this one?
Answer: "Tora Tora Tora."
Said well after the radar guy (on a hill overlooking the harbor) SAW the Jap fighters on his screen, but was told NOT to scramble U.S. fighters, this could be just a training mission returning, you cannot launch until you get confirmation that this is an enemy attack... So after the harbor gets trashed in the surprise attack, he surveys the damage, then tells the officer who stopped him - "There's your confirmation, [a$$h*l3] " and hands him the binoculars.

Not exactly a movie quote here, but more like a query for the Masters of Movie Trivia:
Which Clint Eastwood movie has the duel at the end (ok, lots so far) but the one with the chiming pocket watch on the ground, and the duelists agree to draw at the moment the music stops?

Well, I'll go ahead and post a new quote, since I did get one right.

This one might be a little tough...

"Thousands of years ago, I ran for Treasurer of Student Council.  It was a lot of hard work.  We decorated many cookies.  We spent all night putting up green frosting and then we drew up many posters but the principle called me down to her office and informed me that I had violated election rules."

@ Li'l Wahou: that sounds like something Li'l Washou said in one of the Tenchi movies.

@ Pepito, I remember that line, mainly because he did it like twice in the movie. Now I am stuck as to which martial action star said that.............VanDamme, no. Jason Lee?........mmmm don't think so. I thought it was a cool scene.

Two quickies:

1) Here's a GREAT line:
"PUSH THE BUTTON, MAX!"

2) This hilarious exchange:

A: I've got it! The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle;
the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Right?
B: Right! -- but there's been a change: they broke the chalice from the palace...
A: They broke the chalice from the palace?

A: A flagon?
B: With the figure of a dragon.

B: Right.

B: No! The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon!

Does anyone know what this comes from I don't. Emma Thompson says it, " a lawn that has been rolled everyday for 300 years..." I am curious as I just rolled my lawn, and think that line every time it needs it. Which would be every day for 300 years.

That sounds like Princess Bride to me.

This is from The Great Race.   Jack Lemmon to Peter Falk.  Probably the only movie I ever saw Peter Falk in that didn't have something to do with Columbo.

Yes! It's A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum! Great fun! I saw that one as a rent-a-movie date. (so that would be like 20yrs ago.)

NEXT: "I apologize for calling your wife a bloated warthog (snrfle!) and bid you Good Day!"
The character is drunk as a skunk at the time...

Speaking of SILLY intoxication scenes, does anyone remember the HORSE in 'Cat Ballou,' leaning against the wall with both pairs of legs crossed? Cracked me up and it's like the funniest two seconds of the whole movie.

Well there haven't been a lot of posts very recently, & I've watched a lot of movies recently. So here are some quotes from some of my favorite recently viewed films:

"Email wouldn't even exist if it weren't for AIDS."
--I don't necessarily expect anyone to get this one, even though it was filmed on Burnside and in Laurelhurst Park. But if anyone does they'll be my hero of the day! Hint: Miranda July stars in and directed it.

Another movie:
"You don't need medication, Luke. You just need  to get laid."
and
"Know what your problem is, Shapiro? It's that you just have this really shitty way of looking at things, ya know? I don't have that problem. I just look at the dopeness. But you, it's like you just look at the wackness, ya know?"
Bonus points if you can name the actor who says the first quote, and the actress who says the second quote. Clue: She, in another great recent movie, upon finding out her best friend is pregnant, spurts out, "Honest to blog?" Also name that movie!

Very cute mixing up of names there: Yes, the quote is from Juno. Yes, the actress's last name is Thirlby. However, her first name is Olivia. Her character's name in Juno is Leah.

The quote of hers above is from a movie that gets its title from that very quote: The Wackness.

She is also in another movie but since I don't recommend that people see it (although her storyline in it is the only good part of the film) I'll just mention it: Snow Angels.

Meantime soundninja, that's gotta be the Penguin to Batman in Batman Returns. (I've quoted the Penguin in this thread previously :) ).

Since I gave a clue and enough time and no one else got it yet, Jaz's Sherlock Holmes parody quote is from Without a Clue.

My next quote is:
If we're all ready on the Dark Side of the Moon, play the five tones."

My next quote is:
If we're all ready on the Dark Side of the Moon, play the five tones."
IMHO one of the early great sci fi classics of all time.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  I just watched that last week

Here is my quote:

So raise your hand if you think that was a Russian water-tentacle.

Clue: She, in another great recent movie, upon finding out her best friend is pregnant, spurts out, "Honest to blog?"

I only know this one! It's Leah Thirlby from Juno!

But I'm sorry to say that's the only one I know...>3>

Very cute mixing up of names there: Yes, the quote is from Juno. Yes, the actress's last name is Thirlby. However, her first name is Olivia. Her character's name in Juno is Leah.

Quote from: Wuntvor

Aha! I own this one on VHS!
The Abyss

My favorite scene from that movie is when the guy is disarming the warhead:

"[Cut the] blue wire with the white stripe, not... I repeat... NOT the black wire with the yellow stripe."

(The guy is working with a colored lamp, and BOTH wires look the SAME.)

After much underwater sweating of bullets and a tense close up of the diag. cutter just pinching into the insulating jacket - then switching to the other one and CLIP!

Then he types in: S-T-I-L-L H-E-R-E.

-----------------------------------------

NEXT Quote, made the year before I was born:

"CITIZENS OF VALENCIA!
We do not want war ...
 We bring you Peace!
 WE BRING YOU BREAD!

(soldiers led by this character repeat several times)
 WE BRING YOU BREAD!
TWACK TWACK TWACK - (they catapult bread loaves into besieged city, lobbing several volleys)

[End Quote.]

The Abyss is one of my favorite movies of all time, and those indeed are great lines.
Just watched 1/2 of another Ed Harris movie this week, see if you can guess which:

[1st man]: I told you you'd never hang me, Cole.
[2nd man]: Never ain't here yet.

Okay, since no one else has jumped in, here's a memorable line from one of the world's best films:

"Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?"

Now, from the film I watched last night, whose screenplay was written by the performer who spoke the above line, based on a semi-autobiographical novel written by the same performer:

"Thank G-d I got sober now, so I can be hyper-conscious for this series of humiliations."

Clue to quote #2: It could be thought of as a decade-plus-early audition for "Mama Mia"!

The WALKING CARPET is from the 1st STAR WARS movie ("Episode IV")
I remember paying $3.50 for that and wondering why that movie was NEARLY TWICE what a 'normal' movie should cost...

Is the 'hyper-conscious' one form Postcards from the Edge?

Yes and yes!!
I remember being so incredibly overwhelmed by Star Wars--with one little bittersweet thought about it: I had just attended Pauline Hong's 8th or 9th  birthday party, at which we'd all watched Tron. And I remembered thinking that Tron would've been recognized as meriting more attention and awards had it come out any year other than the same one as Star Wars--that it was the The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars' Gone with the Wind.

Now with a Tron poster having a central role in a major current show (Chuck, which I love), I feel kinda vindicated for that thought!

Here's a quote from the film I watched last night, specifically because of reading on Roger Ebert dot com that it was one of the 15 most influential films of all time, specifically for engendering 'screwball comedy', and that it was a precursor to The Sure Thing and When Harry Met Sally (both two films I love).

This is from, arguably, the most famous scene in the film (well, at least the one I'd repeatedly seen, in compilations of clips, before ever seeing the film).

[Woman stops a car not by hitching with her thumb, but by hitching up her skirt, showing her leg.]
Man: Why didn't you take off *all* your clothes? You could've stopped 40 cars.
Woman: Ooh! I'll remember that, the next time we need 40 cars!
(Might be slight paraphrase.)

Now here is a quote from the movie I'm going to watch tonight. Which is based on a book, the title of which became a classic catch-phrase.

Again, this is a scene I'd seen (and heard of) extensively, without ever having seen the movie, per se, itself.

Let me see if I've got this straight: in order to be grounded, I've got to be crazy and I must be crazy to keep flying. But if I ask to be grounded, that means I'm not crazy any more and I have to keep flying.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! I absolutely loved that movie--and I've met Ice-T (really) and seen Iggy Pop in concert! <--yes those are clues!
Let's see if anyone else gets it....they should....since it's based on a comic....<--clue!!

Meantime from another fun film with the same star <-- clue(a kinda silly film, a guilty pleasure)
Note that this interchange sorta defines the plot:
man 1: Do you think that taxpayers would like it Utah, if they knew that they were paying a federal agent to surf and pick up girls?
man2: Babes.
man 1: I beg your pardon?
man 2: The correct term is Babes, sir.
Gotta love it.

Point Break :)
Yay! Welcome back! *waves* Correct; please post a new quote!

Since no one got the "crumpets and tea" above even with my added clues, I'll name it and post a new quote: It was Tank Girl :) Nice choice.

Meantime Guy has an unnamed quote in there somewhere (something about throwing bread?) and I also had an unnamed quote. Mine was from one of the best romantic comedies of all time: It Happened One Night, with Cary Grant and Claudette Colbert.

Here's my new quote, specifically to honor my adorable new kitten <--clue!!
More clues!
It's from a romantic comedy starring the unlikely pairing of two of my favorite actresses, one of whom was also in a comic book / action figure spoof, so I'll post a quote from that also, and the other of whom was in a film that's already been quoted in this thread that features Japanese school girls, kick-ass martial arts done by chicks, and even some anime for good measure!
Okay, the quote from the romantic comedy is:
Dogs don't like to be left alone. It's not like, when you leave, he goes, "Great, time to finish writing my novel!" No, when their humans leave, dogs get depressed, and they show it.

The quote, spoken by the same actress, from the comic/superhero spoof is:
See now, this is why mad scientists are generally less desirable than your common or garden variety scientist.

The Truth about cats and Dogs - and Mystery Men (One of my all time favorite movies)

New Quote

The only thing that separates us from the animals...is we have pornography.
