I don't think a lot of people have seen this movie, but I just wanna see who might get this:

"Our apartment was so small, that mother made me play in the oven. Late at night I would listen to the voices of the American masters, Tony Tennille, Debby Boone, Anne Murray who was actually a Canadian working in the American idiom. And then there were the crypto-homo rockers: Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, David Bowie who was actually an idiom working in America and Canada. These artists, they left as deep an impression on me as that oven rack did on my face. To be an American in muskrat love, soft as an easy chair not even the chair, I am I said, have I never been mellow? And the colored girls sing... doo do doo do doo do doo... but never with the melody. How could I do it better than Tony or Lou... HEY BOY, TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE! "

@rem
I theoretically should be up to snuff on my Star Wars Trivia
I've been reading "The Dharma of Star Wars". It's a Buddhist read on the 6 films. Or you could say it uses the plot arcs and character development to explicate various Buddhist principles. :)

Yeah, pre-reg is a good idea.

**immediately starts hearing one of her favorite songs from the soundtrack to one of her favorite films--one already correctly identified in this game <-- big hint:
"Turn my dreams into the real thing, baby; turn my dreams into the real thing" Anyone able to guess which film? Or name the artist? Major props if you do :)

Quote
Lords of Acid right? No Idea what soundtrack though, I just know I have it on a techno mix CD in my car... comes on after the Sonya Blade song ;P
CORRECT! YAY! Hm, haven't heard of Sonya Blade, but will check her out on your recommendation! I've been getting into Zero 7 today :)

I actually really like the Dharma Initiative logo (from Lost); I used to throw the I Ching (it's a divination aide).

I had this recurring dream of getting ink that was of a big oak tree with 2 branches, nestled between which was an eye, with a hazel iris and a globe for a pupil, out of which flew a butterfly. In repeated dreams I watched this get inked with the butterfly flying off over my left shoulder. And lucidly realized it was a message that intrapsychic change and global change are one/must co-occur/are synergistic.

Quote
I like the Dharma logo because it reminds me of the Star Wars or GEARS Cog

GEARS? Not sure what that is?

Quote
. As for your tattoo dream - the symbolism of that boggles my mind
:D I hope that's a good thing!!

(d) We should get a party together for X-Men Origins: Wolverine!!! I actually once wore these brown gloves with long silver metal claws sticking out of them, with the kid I helped raise, for some X-men outing or other....Totally surprised him. He was like 6 at the time. Now he's 11 and draws his own comic books!!

Quote
Yeah, that movie should be sweet.... another shameless plug for my tattoos - I have Deadpool in all his glory on my left shoulder.
Does that mean there's another photo coming our way? ;)

Yeah!! Fight the Future! (1st X-files movie. I haven't seen the 2nd one yet.)

I don't know any of the quotes from the rest of the posts. Jay, I hope you keep playing, if nothing else you'll get folks interested in great classic movies.

Wooo, lot going on in this thread since I last visited.

So first up is my Deadpool Tat - I don't have a pic of it... but here is the art we used, It's on my left shoulder

I've been reading "The Dharma of Star Wars". It's a Buddhist read on the 6 films. Or you could say it uses the plot arcs and character development to explicate various Buddhist principles. :)

Sounds like a good read. One of my favorite books is The Matrix and Philosophy it prompted me to write a 30 page paper on fantasy themes in the matrix movies for one of my college classes

CORRECT! YAY! Hm, haven't heard of Sonya Blade, but will check her out on your recommendation! I've been getting into Zero 7 today :)

Do not run out and hear it... it's not an uber good song, it just makes me laugh a bit

GEARS? Not sure what that is?

Gears of War, it's my favorite game on XBOX 360

I'm going to out my self here as a Freddie Prinze Jr fan, but that is from Wing Commander. Part the reason I like this movie is, for Angel Devereaux (My last name is L'amoureaux)

First off: Props about the Hedwig and the Angry Inch quote (to poster and identifier). Wow. My friend starred in the stage show of it. I don't remember the playing in the over part but the muskrat love part should've been a giveaway! Great soundtrack.....

Eve: No idea about the quote, but I love Ron Perlman, not just from Hellboy but City of Lost Children.

@Pepito--
(a) Way cool art, I'm sure the ink is stunning.
(b)  Yeah, we have Dharma of Star Wars out at our meditation tent in the woods (really), we read a chapter section each time we go up there, then meditate on it (really). What can I say I lived at a Buddhist Retreat Center last summer (in a tent).
(c) Hm, I'm going to see if I can find a copy of The Matrix and Philosophy. One of the funniest things that happened at the Retreat was one of the Interns showed Matrix #2 to the Tibetan Guru/Lama/teacher (for whom English is like a 5th language) and he was really digging it as though it were there to teach kids Buddhism. He kept asking everyone what was and wasn't real, within the canon of the film, and then using that as a teaching technique, while also just digging the film. I still have to see #3 *hides in shame)*.
(d) Totally rockin, I'd love to read your paper (really). What was the class? Was it on films? Philosophy? How well was it received?
(e) Okay then whom else might you recommend other than Sonya Blade?
(f) Never played Xbox *shame*
(g) Woohoo!!! Yay for you knowing Ferris Bueller's Day Off! Did you know of the band, Save Ferris, which had a great horn section behind a female vocalist, that took their name from this movie, specifically where the kid is going around collecting $$ for Ferris's supposed kidney operation??
(h) Wow, Raising Arizona, 1st Coen Bros, been a really long time.
(i) I don't know Wing Commander, but wow what a beautiful last name. You'd think that would be something someone would make up who was writing romance novels. Or starring in porn *shrugs* *G*
(j) Jaybug: Posting plot summaries is indeed a great idea!!

NEW QUOTE--CLUE--This quote is from a movie that bears some level of relationship to a movie discussed in the past couple messages!
(Either holding or pointing to a frog)"Them syreens did this to Pete. They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad."
(The two men then take their friend-turned-frog with them on the road.)

i've not been playing this cause i can't ever guess the quotes, lol, but i've been watching eve play it and helped him pick out his last quote and i really want someone to get it... so i'm trying to think of another clue...

the movie has quite a few big actors in it, but wasn't a real box office hit. and, it's a fairly new release too. john rhys-davies is also in it. and matthew lillard.

Well the only movie with all those people in it is In the Name of the King, but I haven't seen it, and I have no idea what role arguing over a piece of chicken would have in it!
Try another quote from another movie!!

Here's one just with the 2 of you in mind: (open to anyone though)
Once upon a time there was an inventor so gifted that he could create life.
Clues: Foreign film. Featuring an actor who was in one of the other films mentioned in the thread.

My favorite LOA song would be, I sit on Acid - although it's I like it more form it's beat than anything else, it's kinda raunchy.

Once upon a time there was an inventor so gifted that he could create life. Going foreign on us eh? I think you have to give us the language if you do that :P - Although I will use my sleuth skills to deduce the actor is Ron Pearlman and the language is French, bon ouis?

Them syreens did this to Pete. They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad O' Brother where art though. I actually found a CD of the Soggy Bottom Boys because of this movie

My matrix paper was for a 400 level communication class about analyzing rhetoric. It's a pretty good read, my professor helped me touch it up and we published it in a communication journal, you may? be able to find it online it's called - The Matrix - Jesus Christ, Socrates, and the Illusion of Choice by L'amoureaux and Ruggiero. I know I have the original on one of my computers somewhere... but at the moment it escapes me

I love Ferris, I think that was my first exposure to breaking the 4th wall in film, awesome concept. When ever I ask a group a question and no one responds I say, "Anyone, Anyone, Beuller?"

No Romance Novels for me, I migrated the other way... I beat people up for a living :)

Cool, I'll look for it. The first song I had heard by them, before I saw Strange Days, was Take Control.

Correct and correct. Though I think it's spelled Perlman. It is, in fact, the movie I mentioned in my prior post: City of Lost Children. One of the most mindboggling WTF did they really just do that? movies. With a haunting soundtrack (so good I actually bought it).

What? Did they really exist? Outside the movie?? Or do you mean the soundtrack of the movie, including Alison Krause if I recall correctly? Holy moley.

Well my original paper was 32 pages, but it was chopped down to 14 for the journal - for the class we had to include information on Fanatsy Theme Analysis and Opposing Viewpoints, etc - which we left out for the journal. My professor did a lot of the leg work for it - I can't for the life of me remember the journal, other than a lot of it was aimed at film and television.

Um?? Boxer? Cage fighter? Dare I inquire??

Close - I am the head instructor/owner/program director of a Martial Arts School

(Italian and starring Rupert Everett???? Is it in Italian?)
Woah, you've got a kinda twisted favorite there! I felt a little tainted and trapped just reading its plot description!
That would be the one - it's a brilliant film. Kind of gory in places, but that isn't the films main focus.

I used to have the soundtrack, but loaned it to someone and never got it back.
The longer version of your paper would probably be even more fun to read!

I should've known, didn't you write somewhere about something & your 2nd degree BB? *thinks*
I did mention previously, I believe, that zombies are my least favorite non-human (or no-longer-human) film villians!

(@ everyone)
Here's a quote from one of the only movies I've ever had to simply elect not to finish watching. This, and Funny Games, are the two that really stand out, that I simply couldn't stomach to finish them.
Yet with this one, I bought the soundtrack.....
The above info + this quote = giveaway :)

"It's just murder. All God's creatures do it. You look in the forests and you see species killing other species, our species killing all species including the forests, and we just call it industry, not murder."

Of note is imho, this is the one most redeeming line in the entire film.
And that it was spoken by an actor who irl is a forest activist made perfect sense.

Sorry I'm not more helpful in with my journal article, I honestly haven't even seen it. I just know it was published. I sort of got out of college in a hurry. I'll try to find it on my comp, I know I still ahve it, just haven't had reason to look at it for a few years.

The martial art I teach is an MMA Style called Saeng-Whal that has a TaeKwonDo base, we dabble in a little of everything though, from kung-fu to Muay Thai, 10th Planet to Judo :) I have a lot of fun with it.

I tend to like zombie flicks, although I wouldn't really classify DellaMorte as one... or even a horror flick for that matter, it's almost a psychological thriller, but not really

@chihiro

You betcha - best musical of all time

"Fudge? Packer"

Only movie I can think of with an Armidillo in it, was one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre flicks... doubt it was that

Okay here's one I know off the top of my head and have actually repeated out of context on multiple occasions:

"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings!"
Have fun, and thanks for brightening my work day!

It's a Wonderful Life - Way to go Clarance!

"I like rich people. I like the way they live. I like the way I live when I'm with them." - This is a slightly obscure quote from a very famous musical.

Excellent!
I will leave your movie for others to sleuth out, but will let you know that I know which it is by remarking that it is
one of my favorite things
;)

So here's a lyric from another of my all-time favorite musicals:
"I sing the body electric."
Major props to anyone who not only knows the musical in which members sang this line, but also the literary origin of the line (who wrote it in what work)!
NOTE: There are 2 correct answers to this question. One is in sort of the golden age of sci fi. One is late 1880s poetry. I only knew about the former until just now!

edit:
@ wuntvor: I was writing while pepito was posting :)
@ pepito: I haven't heard of some of those MAs, fascinating.
The description I read used the word Sysephean, and that really seemed to fit. Being trapped, unable to get out of a cycle, while hating the cycle and wanting nothing more than to get out of it...yes I would characterize that as psychological thriller.....And it would likely give me nightmares. Though I am trusting it's quite well made!

Yes what I had in mind initially was the Ray Bradbury story (& Twilight Zone ep).

Hm, I saw one play while I was in London's West End. And that play was turned into a movie. So, fodder for my next item, which will be a plot summary instead of a quote:
5 Irish sisters are trying to survive, a dancing man sweeps a couple of them off their feet posing a potential rift amongst them, and the title makes reference to a pagan holiday <--This is a dead giveaway.

edit: @ pepito's lyrics: No idea, but I'd love to hear it!

Lyrics are from 311 - Song is Trip the Shrooms I think

Not thier best song, but a pretty good one. I really enjoy that whole album.

After googling every Pagan holiday I could think of off the top of my head (Yule, Beltaine, Samhain, Ostara, and Imbloc) Which gave me all sorts of fun information.... I found it.

Can't say I've ever heard of it, or the holiday for that matter, which is sad, because it takes place on the first full moon of Leo, I feel like I should have known :(

Adding in another line from my previous movie:

"Tae Kwon Do is terrific for keeping in shape, but it's also a deadly serious killing system."

and

"Derek, have you got your cup on? Because I will hit you there"

Short Circuit?!?!

I thought that was Steve Guttenberg?

*enjoys pepito's bow* Yes the film (with Meryl Streep) is Dancing at Lughnadsah. This is the cross-quarter holiday (i.e. the midpoint) between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox. It is also known as Lammas.

I wouldn't accuse you of dishonesty! I accuse you of being from another planet, but an honest planet!

^ I know that there's a quote like that in Cocoon, but I haven't seen it in years, so I'm not sure if I'm remembering it quite right.

"Aagh!  Are their brains completely rotten!?!"
"Well, some things taste best just before they're about to go bad, you know."
"Ugh..."

Well, it looks like nobody is even taking a shot at this one, so here's a clue.

The movie is an anime movie.

i think i heard that once before
I KNOW WHAT IT IS!

It's Slayers the Motion Picture ;D

A little late, but yes, Slayers the Motion Picture!

"Tom Mullen: The whole world now knows... my son, Sean Mullen, was kidnapped, for ransom, three days ago. This is a recent photograph of him. Sean, if you're watching, we love you. And this... well, this is what waits for the man that took him. This is your ransom. Two million dollars in unmarked bills, just like you wanted. But this is as close as you'll ever get to it. You'll never see one dollar of this money, because no ransom will ever be paid for my son. Not one dime, not one penny. Instead, I'm offering this money as a reward on your head. Dead or alive, it doesn't matter. So congratulations, you've just become a two million dollar lottery ticket... except the odds are much, much better. Do you know anyone that wouldn't turn you in for two million dollars? I don't think you do. I doubt it. So wherever you go and whatever you do, this money will be tracking you down for all time. And to ensure that it does, to keep interest alive, I'm running a full-page ad in every major newspaper every Sunday... for as long as it takes. But... and this is your last chance... you return my son, alive, uninjured, I'll withdraw the bounty. With any luck you can simply disappear. Understand... you will never see this money. Not one dollar. So you still have a chance to do the right thing. If you don't, well, then, God be with you, because nobody else on this Earth will be."
