I like that, and, your plot description idea.

Clues for my quotes:
"Only unfulfilled love can be romantic."
This film just won an Oscar this year.
And part of it's in Spanish.

"Silly rabbit. My triumph isn't over her. It's over you."
This film stars Sarah Michelle Gellar aka Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
And it's a modernization of a period piece made 3 times: As Dangerous Liasons, as Les Liasons Dangueres, and as Valmont.

the second one is Cruel Intentions

"Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?"

or here is another from the same movie
"Remember, if anything happens to me, or you don't hear from me within the hour... you take this ship and you come and you rescue me."

Wait, I think I may actually have one of Rem's films! Vicky Christina Barcelona! AS I said, you only do cult films. And yes, Woody Allen is a cult film specialist. When was the last time you heard of one of his films grossing over 100 milon dollars. I think I am going to be saying milon, instead of million for a long time now. Mainly because that guy reminds me so much of my best friend's older brother, is some regards.

Yay for those guessing both of my quotes.
I really don't think *all* my quotes have been from "cult" movies? S'pose it depends on your definition. To me a "cult" film is something in limited release with limited appeal, possibly some disturbing content or niche content, never intended for the mainstream. Could you really put Matrix, two Milos Foreman films, or a Woody Allen film in that category? I'd say not.

Yes, I agree, gotta love Jayne, in fact, he's a main reason I watch Chuck!

I am delighted to be able to bring to you a quote that is doubly related to the Serenity quote above:
(a) it features the word grenade;
(b) it is spoken about a character played by our dear Adam Baldwin.

"Believe it or not, but under fire, Animal Mother can be a wonderful human being. All he needs is somebody throwing grenades at him 'til the end of his life.

This is a Kubrick film that was nominated for an Oscar. I really do not consider it a cult film (nor is it something I'd ever want to see again, though, I did use a shot from it in conjunction with an anti-war poem I read on live tv once).

not to sound whiny, but i keep trying to play this game and it seems no one really follows rules... isn't the quote supposed to be guessed before a new one is posted? i keep seeing quotes posted and they never get guessed because someone else ignores it and posts their own. it's hard to follow and want to play when that happens >.<

I heard that in Buckaroo Bonzai, but am unsure if that is what you were hoping for. "No matter where you go, there you are."

Full Metal Jacket. Only about two Kubrick films would I have a time guessing. Casanova, and of course I forget the other. I could probably guess lines from Spartacus, but...

For this crowd, I would definitely categorize Milos Forman, and Woody Allen as cult film directors. I mean no one got my quote from Dune, directed by David Lynch, who was until making that film a cult film director. Not that there is anything wrong with cult films. I mean what would life be like without Cinema 21? I know, I know it's the Bijou down here, but it just is not the same. I guess my thing is I would like more people to play this thread. So Maybe I should give easy ones, eh?

Can someone post a musical score here to try for some guess that tune of which movie? I am wondering about works like Fantasia, and Allegro Non Troppo, or perhaps Fantastic Planet, the last having at least a narrator.

Are we good for another quote?
"Pink, your underwear is pink."

I'm not sure what you mean by Wag the Dog, but it's none of the movies you've indicated thus far.

Here's some more from the same movie...

"Nobody asks to be a hero, it just sometimes turns out that way." and "You Americans don't smoke anymore. You live long, dull and uninteresting lives."

Yay!!
@Jaybug:
(a) Yay! A Kubrick fan! And correctly getting the quote! :)
(b) Yay! A soundtrack/score/ name that tune fan! (My favorite game show of all time.) I actually just had a Soundtrack Quotes quiz with 20 quotes from songs sung by lead characters within movies and/or songs prominently featured on the soundtrack during films, on my Facebook, so consider me totally ready for such!
(c) Yay! I know that quote!!! The original Superman with Christopher Reeve, when Lois Lane is interviewing him outside on the porch, and doesn't believe he has x-ray vision, until she steps out from behind the iron grill, and then he proves it *blushes* I was a little kid when I saw it and the thought of some guy being able to see what color my undies made me say eeeeeek!~(really).

@Cassiopiea: Yay! Another Chuck fan!
@ Washougal: Wag the Dog is the name of a film from which we'd already posted a quote.

@ Eve & Kahlan, I suppose we differ on our approach. I would think the thread would've died out many many pages ago if we couldn't move forward until one quote no one was getting was solved. People piping in with other quotes, imho, is what kept it going. Moreover, what I thought the rule was that one would post another quote after one's *own* quote was posted. So if Jay's and Washougal's were still in play, but mine was solved, I'd post a new quote, and Jay and Washougal would post new clues for their standing quotes for a day or so, and then give the answers if no one got them.

What does everyone else think should be the rules? I'm open to whatever the consensus is.

'Lil Washou's quote is going to drive me to distraction, as I remember hearing the second part, and now have Jean Reno in Godzilla stuck in my head, but that just doesn't feel right either.

@ jay:
Well that's not exactly how I remember the quote, but I don't think there are many films that include the word pteradactyl.

If I'm right, then it's the same classic notorious for these famous lines:
(air traffic controller <<-- big clue):
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue."

(young girl, perhaps 9 years old, to stewardess who offers her cream and sugar with her coffee):
"No, thanks. I take it black. Like my men."

Of note, this is the first parody I ever saw--and I believe it was the very first film of its kind ever made--the first parody of an entire genre (the disaster film). So all those Epic Movie, Scary Movie, etc., all owe a nod to this one!

I've gotta be right, right Jay? Let's see if anyone else can get it.

Well, gee PM me with the answer then! lol I know you know. So now you know I know you know. Ya know!

@ Kahlan and Jaz. well that works if people are around to give hints. If they don't show and no one is guessing, well we find it at the bottom of the pile, like I did before I threw in another quote, in case someone can get that quote, but not the one that has people stumped.

Oh 'Lil Washou, would that be Syriana?

@jay- you got my quote from buckaroo banzai ^.^ yay!

@jaz- agreed. completely. when i've tried to play, i got all excited when i got one correct and then earned the right to post a quote. then i got excited to have people guess it. and i was excited for some of eve's posted quotes, but people didn't even attempt them, they just got completely ignored.

it just gets confusing when everyone is posting new quotes, so it's hard to decide which one should be answered first. idk, whatever works works, i guess. i don't play all that much, just because i can't ever guess the quotes since they're mostly from obscure movies i've never even heard of, lol.

I think it was also mentioned that you weren't allowed to look-up the answer.  My personal opinion is to solve a quote then give a quote.  New players can only post if they solve a quote already in play.  If your quote isn't answered in one day, you can give clues.  After two days you must give the answer, and can provide a new quote.  No more than FIVE quotes can be in play at once.  How does that sound?   ???  We can start assigning a number to the quotes as well.  The new quote will have the same number as the solved quote.  That will allow us to keep track of what quote is being answered, as well as how many quotes are in play. If you have a quote currently in play, please re-post, or quote it and give it a number.  Then lets give this a try, how about it?  ;D   If for some reason there are less than five quotes in play, or someone just doesn't have a new quote to issue, then a new quote can be started by anyone, on a first come first serve basis.

@ Washougal: Wag the Dog is the name of a film from which we'd already posted a quote.

OIC

Moreover, what I thought the rule was that one would post another quote after one's *own* quote was posted. So if Jay's and Washougal's were still in play, but mine was solved, I'd post a new quote, and Jay and Washougal would post new clues for their standing quotes for a day or so, and then give the answers if no one got them.

The original rule was that one person answers, and if they got it correct, then they post a new quote for others to guess.  You are right about this thread being as large as it is from everyone posting several quotes at a time, but that makes it hard for people to keep track of what's going on.  For example, someone who hasn't seen my latest movie quoting that could get it, won't be able to see it now, because there've been enough posts to push mine back.

Here's all the quotes I did earlier (I'll even put in a clue for the ones that apply)...

"Look, these people, they have no jobs, no food, no education, no future. I just figure that we have two things we can do. Help, or we can sit back and watch a country destroy itself on CNN. Right?" (Spoken by Josh Hartnett)

"Nobody asks to be a hero, it just sometimes turns out that way." (Spoken by Josh Hartnett)

"You Americans don't smoke anymore. You live long, dull and uninteresting lives."

Lemme do another quote from the movie, one that'll hopefully make it more workable.  Okay, it's a conversation.

"Why aren't you shooting?"
"We're not being shot at yet."
"How can you tell?"
"A 'hiss' means it's close, a snap means..."
(A bullet hisses by)
"Now they're shooting at us!"

Yes, this is all from the same movie.  It's also the only Josh Hartnett movie I've seen that I respected him for.  (Which I hope is another clue for you guys).

NEW QUOTE: "Anyone see my baseball?"  "Beans & Frank!"

LMAO!!

I kinda like what Wuntvor said, with the exception that to me, what makes it fun is
(a) the more the merrier--not just those who know the answers, but those who want to guess, those who only know a couple lines from films but want to enjoy others guessing them, and especially those who just want to learn about some cool new movies they maybe never heard about but will now want to see because they seem like fun or seem profound as quoted and discussed in this thread! (That's my main motivation for posting and reading here.)
(b) I am all about collaboration rather than competition. How do people feel about for example instead of just me posting the answer to Jay's quote as Airplane, which is what Bang Bang Neko must've meant given the in-jokes cited above ("and stop calling me Shirley" is a line spoken deadpan in the film, and they have characters talking in exaggerated "jive"), that I added clues to it, so people who hadn't answered as many as I already have could play? I think of that as both perpetuating the thread, and sportmanship/not being covetous. However if there's anyone who doesn't want people adding additional clues to their quotes just let me know.

BTW in SIX years of being staff for KC this is THE VERY FIRST spam forum thread that's ever interested me and in which I've ever played. So please forgive me for not being up to speed on how formal people like their spam games!!

I guess the other question is do we consider it correctly answered when someone posts as though they know what they're talking about and puts in another quote or do we have to wait for someone to verify that yes that was the movie they were quoting?

We need a hint from Wuntvor for his quote from the 23rd. Please.

"You don't remember your name?
No, but for some reason I remember yours." Is my quote from the 24th. I thought people gave up, my bad. If this is causing confusion for some. Anyway a hint. hmmm how not to make it too easy.....In some ways this film is like my job, in that boilers are operated. I hope that is more subtle than it seems to me right now.

And I am no closer to guessing Wuntvor's quote than I was 4 days ago.

It will be interesting to see if the new rules result in more, or less, participation in the thread. Are there only 2 quotes left in play? Does that mean up to 3 more can be added at present? Or are we in limbo?
If anyone wants to trade quotes by PM until we're back in compliance with the new rules and moving forward, feel free :)

We need a hint from Wuntvor for his quote from the 23rd. Please.

And I am no closer to guessing Wuntvor's quote than I was 4 days ago.

V
B: "I want to do something for her... but what?"
C: "Well, there's the usual things: flowers... chocolates... promises you don't intend to keep..."

^ hehehe, Beauty & the Beast! Thanks for quoting that, I adore that movie. One of my favorite Disney classics.

Sorry JaybugEveofAbyss got mine on the next post.  Beauty & the Beast.  "B" is Beast and "C" is Cogsworth.  I didn't post that he got it right.  Thus, Rems Question.  Hmmmm..  If you know the answer, or think you do and post a new quote, that is fine.  If you were wrong, then we end up with two quotes in play with the same number.  I don't know of a fair way to handle this.  If you wait for the original poster to reply that the quote was gotten correctly, it could take awhile.  This may not be fair to other players.  Also, having over 5 quotes in play, breaks the rule, so when the next quote is gotten we should not add a new one, but this seems unfair to the person who got the quote. Hmm...  Any suggestions?  We really don't want to make this to difficult, but we also don't want 15 or 50 quotes in play at once either.  :-\

This is one I posted several days ago, and have given two clues. No one has even guessed.

^ GAH!  I remember it now.  Spirited Away  It took me awhile to remember where I had heard it from.

Quote Number 1:
NC: Where are you from, anyway?
BJ: Bakersfield, originally.
NC: No, I mean your ancestors.
BJ: Oh, them. Pittsburgh.

Short Circuit! #5 is alive! You can tell them about it being filmed in Oregon, and SW Washington. I think they even have a shot of the Astoria column in it. I wouldn't have gotten this, except I have had it running through my mind a lot lately, for some reason.

So do I post a new #1? I will.

"Maybe I've been wrong all these years, and it's taken your inspiring speech to make me see it. You've really changed me. It's beautiful. I think we've gotta hug."

Call this quote #1, because I solved Wuntvor's. Or should we call it #2, as there is no official Wuntvor notification, and I am merely assuming I know what I am talking about? Okay, I looked after I wrote my answer, here is the link from imdb.com http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091949/quotes

Here is a #2 quote, just to get things rolling again.

"Could you please tell us where we may find the continuum transfuctioner?
 And then?
And then we may go and get it?
 And then?
[pause]
Can I get an order of shrimp fried rice?"

^ Dude, Where's My Car?

So, assuming I got that one, I will post a new quote now (and make any past, unsolved quotes from me null).

"Long have you hunted me, long have I eluded you, no more!"

If close, D&D II? Hard to remember that I did see that movie. I hope it isn't the same one was quoted a few pages ago. I only watched that one, and forgot the name.

LOTR? But whom would it be? Naw, can't be that one. I can't think, unless it is something spoken by an Uruk-Hai. But then it could be Narnia, as I really don't know the lines well.
