Anyone heard of the Maximum Ride Manga?
« on: February 01, 2009, 06:51:09 pm »
Anyway...  This is a link to ebay on the manga: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Maximum-Ride-Vol-1-Manga-Patterson-James_W0QQitemZ120366458811QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Fiction_Books?hash=item120366458811&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

And... it's about six kids, Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, The gasman (you really don't want to know the story behind that, do you?), and Angel. They grew up in a science lab... in cages like dogs. Literally, those medium-style cages? The ones with just the bars and no surrounding plastic. Until Jeb (some other scientist. Who turns out to be... well I don't want to ruin the story for you do I?) comes out and helps her and her family (the other five mutants) escape to a house.

Whilst at the house, Jeb teaches the kids how to fly (because their mutant kids infused with Avian dna. Never specifies which.), fight (because of the science labs 'excocutioners' and gaurds. Their called Erasers. Wolf-men.Able to morph into wolves when they chose. Kind of like X-men?), and survive.

Then he leaves. What is 14 year old max, fang, iggy, eleven year old nudge, six year old angel, and eight year old gazzy, supposed to do?

ANYWAY-

I want to cosplay as one of the six. Good idea or not?

It's not a manga, it's an OEL, and cosplay it if you want to.

-shakes head- Nonono. It's classified as a manga. :) Says the original writer of the whole series.

Good for her. You can tell it's either an OEL or a manwha because it reads left-right.

James Patterson is the male author of the original novel series that the OEL/manwha is based on. Narae Lee is the female creator of the OEL/manwha.

The artist of Maximum Ride is Korean, making it an OEL manwha.

Original English-Language manhwa. James Patterson needs to learn his terminology.

Some people are picky.

Anyways, back on-topic, I think that's a cool idea.  :)

I personally don't like the Manwha(yes it is a manwha). The novels are better to read, even though I hate ending(won't spoil).

You can cosplay as one of them if you want to but no one will probably recognize you and if they do it'll be more like a 'hmm they seem familiar. *shrug, walks off*.' I'll probably say hey you did a good job or something like that but I won't be too excited, no offense. That's just my opinion. :/

-shrugs- You'd be surprised If I was walking around with overly-long samuri hair. 0.0

AND THE ENDING TO THE MAXIMUM RIDE BOOKS ARE HORRIBLE. They always end with those horrible cliffhangers.

People need to be educated in this stuff. :(

I think people who went to K-Con LAST year might recognize her, because they were passing out Yen+s, the magazine where Maximum Ride is serialized in in America.

But you'd have to do the wings, too.

And I love the fourth book. I liked it about global warming, how was she going to save the WHOLE world?

Global warming effects us all. She just ASSUMED it was Itex. (Assume- (you make a) ass (out of) u (and) me._.)

I basically just hated it for the ending and what happened between her and fang. other then that it was really good.

I said fang because you said something about samurai hair, thought of him. lol XD whats the person who might play iggy like?

Quiet. :D But If I got her into an animeted conversation about britney spears, and asked my total what she thought of the subject, that'd get her going.

:D Uhm... She's taller than me... she'll be taller than me when kumoricon turns around too. ;D Sept we'd need help with sewing wings onto our costumes. Coat hangers and cardboard would work, wouldn't it?

Anyway, I'd be the only max walking around. It'd be pretty easy to spot me!

xD they had way to many of those things, on the last day some one just gave me a box of them and their still sitting in my room >.> *stairs at manga* i should really do something with those.

I think its a good idea to cosplay whoever you want to. Ive seen book characters before even if the book hasnt been turned manwha yet :3

and off the record about this whole buisness, I think MaxRide is a OEL Manwha (correct me if i'm wrong on my termanolgy) where as Meg cabots books that turned manga I think are just General OEL. The diffrence is the origin of the writer. though personaly Ive always considered Korean writers to be just as good as the Japanese *shrug* though I'm not a huge fan of most OEL just because of the sheer amount of Mary Sues and the fact that the art keeps getting further and further away from mangas characteristics to a point where i wouldnt always call it manga (none the less most of it still is fantastic art.)

Hollow Fields was epic, though! D: I wouldn't call Lucy a Mary Sue; she's too silly for that. xD And the art is really good!

A lot of the OELs that I've seen have not-manga like art or they have bad manga-styled art. D: But yes, Maximum Ride is an OEL manhwa.  :)

Two things that sound really out-of-this-world:

Manwha (what the hecklefish!?)

OEL (original... uh... who knows.)

Wikipedia is your friend. :3

But, in case somehow Wikipedia hates you/you're too lazy to do the research, here's the terms:
manhwa: Korean version of manga. Reads left-to-right. Rarely animated, which means I can't ever make a Jack Frost AMV. D:
OEL: Original English language. Used to describe "mangas" such as Nightschool, McBurger Queen (I think that's the title), and Dramacon.

It's VERY sturdy.

If you click on the link on the first page they have links to places that tell you all about Wonderflex.

EDIT: Whoops, I meant if you click on the FIRST link in your angel wings thread there are places that inform you about Wonderflex.
