no dvd's, unfortunately. i made sure to check all around the store. maybe they'll do it later, but i don't really see them doing it any time soon. maybe they really wanted people to see the movie and extras with the enhancements and clarity of blu-ray, though i've never watched a blu-ray disc, so i dunno what the differences are, but i've heard it's a lot crisper and such, kinda like hdtv... but i can't ever notice the difference in hdtv either >.>

so eve and i just watched acc this evening. i am still speechless o.O SO GOOD!

so, i retract my prior statements about blu-ray. i'd never watched anything on blu-ray before, but i can see what all the hype is about. it's so much more crisp and clear and the colors are much richer and bolder. it's just all together better. and now i see why they released acc on blu-ray and not dvd, it really should be seen on blu-ray, it's the only way to really see and appreciate all the hard work they put into the film. so yes, i will eat my words that dissed blu-ray before, lol. granted, i will still get dvd's, but i'll get certain special movies on blu-ray (ie terminator salvation when it comes out... lol)

anyway, back to acc. i love how they dispersed all the new footage through out the movie, so it wasn't just added in scenes, it was extensions of scenes. the additional info they gave was really nice and would be really helpful to those watching it who haven't played the game. i was wowed within the first few minutes upon seeing the addition of the mog with cait sith sitting on his head in the flashback scenes ^.^ and let me say, marlene's impression of barrett was hilarious. but the best was the extended sephiroth vs. cloud fight *dreamy sigh* lol.

so, if given the opportunity, watch it, you won't regret it!

*Wow! You beat me to the review, Kahlan, lol

Just watched it today, and I have to say....wowie! Umm, lessee, first things first: I now completely understand why this was only released on Blu-Ray. It would be an injustice to the quality they put into it to release it on anything else. I'm not turning into a Blu-Ray snob, I promise, but some things just require the higher definition of the format, and this is without doubt one of those things. The colors are amazingly vivid, the textures are crisp to crystal clarity. It's all beautiful. And this coming from someone who never understood the application of Blu-Ray to film. I have seen the error of my ways.

As for actual product significance, this does not leave the viewer wanting! It boasts 26 minutes of extra footage, but it definitely feels like more. Instead of a typical extended cut of a film where there are just extra scenes thrown in here and there, FFVII:ACC has extra scenes, elongated scenes, and just snippets, reimaginings and all-together new stuff spread throughout the entire film. It feels like an entirely different movie from the original release. In addition to that, there are also some redubbed voices and narrations, and the extended Sephiroth battle....not to be missed for the world!

I love it, love it, love it, and give it 5 cute Marlene-Barret impressions out of 5.  ;D

In addition to that, there are also some redubbed voices and narrations, and the extended Sephiroth battle....not to be missed for the world!

I find these comments interesting when compared with the use of fully-rendered video in the original game itself. In 1997 when FF7 was released, CD-ROM was still a new format and game developers were figuring out how to use the vastly improved capacity (relative to game cartridge ROMs). Many games in the last several years before 1997 used video to the detriment of gameplay, being "interactive movies" of sorts, or just tacked on opening and ending videos to otherwise unenhanced gameplay that could have been done in a cartridge (look at the games on the Sega CD system, for example). But instead, FF7 carefully interspersed small bits of video all throughout the game, sometimes just a few seconds long, sometimes longer, so that you never felt like you were entering or leaving video, but instead, it was completely seamless with the gameplay. To make it even more immersive, the first and last frames of the videos would be identical to the real-time rendered 3D scenes.

FF7 was the shining example of how to use the CD-ROM format to enhance gameplay (while also showing how to mask its drawback, load times, which severely affected many other CD-ROM games at the time). Which was the very reason that Square defected from Nintendo's cartridge-based N64.

That is really interesting, Jeff. I had never thought of the similarity between the relationship between VII and other games of the time, and AC to ACC. I do have to say I was (and still am considerably) blown away by the way VII was animated so seamlessly, transitioning from in-game to pre-rendered. I'm actually replaying through VII right now and, yeah, it is still pretty much flawless, for its time and on its own merit as well.

Anyway....as for ACC, I still would have loooooved to see more of Red XIII, as in speaking parts.

But I guess he does get the last word over everyone, or should I say the last howl....498 years later!

Ah, yeah, I think it grew on me. I'm not sure I ever really thought anything about his voice because it is such a fleeting instant in the movie. It can get lost in everything else that is going on, heh.

I just think he deserves way more of the screen than he gets.

i actually thought red xiii's english voice fit him really well. though it was only one line and very short, i could sense such intelligence in it, i can't find the words at the moment to describe it, but it was very much how i'd imagine red sounding, almost having an ancient knowledge of things and very deep. but that's just me ^.^

You know what? I changed my mind, wasn't really thinking when I wrote my response. I agree, Red XIII's voice had inherent wisdom in it, in just that one sentence I could sense the knowledge of the planet, as only Cosmo Canyon could bring breed.

Good insight. ^_^

He still needs more screen time, haha

I'm fine with the basic product, heh
