So, there's MPRPG (Multi-Player Role Playing.), and RPG (Roleplaying.)

I've always wondered why they made MPRPG's. In that case, it isn't roleplaying. Roleplaying is already multi-player in itself, because you can't roleplay all by yourself. :D

So, what I'm asking is if there is such thing as Role Playing in Live Action.

And yes, it is mighty nerdy...but what fun would it be if it weren't?

There are also fun great nerdy social scenes that don't call themselves LARPs but are. I LARPed as part of a pirate fleet for over 5 years (and this was before the Caribbean movies), in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). In fact, it was through this LARP that I knew the guys who brought me to TUNAC, the Totally Un-Named Anime Club of U of O, whose members coalesced into Alto Nimbus and developed Kumoricon!

There is that annual Portland Pirate Fest which is full of pirate role players. I always wanted to participate in that but never had the time or money. Someday, though!

I don't think dressing up as anime characters is geeky at all, and I don't even cosplay. Dressing up as Star Trek stuff isn't geeky either, now when you can speak klingon.....

Yup, I agree. Tried to do it last year and nobody seemed too keen on the idea, so hopefully we could make it happen this year.

it kinda is like cosplaying in battle form....only original characters. And most of it is set in Medieval times. You chose a side to start out with then choose a class. After that you can make your character look like whatever you want...within reason. A lot of it is using your imagination too ;D

Hope that helps a little.

I've always thought that live-action role playing looked like fun, especially if you're got a story to it and a point to the battle, rather than just random people dressed as random characters "attacking" each other randomly for no real reason. It could be fun.

Huh, I should bring this up to the people in the Rebel Legion... It could be fun getting together people in Rebel outfits and fighting it out against the 501st (Imperial). Perhaps even Jedi versus Clone Troopers or something.
Could be very interesting... Hmm...

And, actually, that's just one kind of larp. There are so many types/genres out there. The type you're mentioning is boffer larp. There are also tons of non-boffer, more theatrical larps. A better description of larp would be theater improv, but with game rules and much more in depth characters.
There's a bunch of sites on the web with definitions and lists and all that. There is one local group that has a good deal of variety and some decent FAQs: www.shaglarp.com (in fact, they are in talks right now about running a couple of non-boffer larp events at Kumoricon this year).
