Final Fantasy Mock-Battle 2009
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:45:22 pm »
EVENT OFFICIALLY POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING 2010!

Da Rules:
- So, this will be a simple turn-based reenactment of the popular Final Fantasy battle system.
- Two types of battles we will/can do: Game-Specific Battles and Crossover Battles.
- First we will do the Game-Specific Battles, working our way up from FFI. If a game does not have enough cosplayers to battle, then the game will be skipped, and the cosplayers that are present can participate in the Crossover Battle, if they desire.
- After the Game-Specifics, the Crossover will simply entail of all the oddball mash-ups and crossovers that people want to do or see (for example: Kuja vs. Everyone, Yuna vs. a Moogle, etc.).

So, that's about it! Everyone good? Let's rumble!

We don't have a time yet as the schedule isn't made yet, but it will probably be on the Sunday of Kumoricon...that is when it has been for the past couple years, I think.

And yep, Yuffie is good!

Yeah, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. At least when you plan things this early, the chances of having them go wrong are much much less.

Yeah, that is definitely a possibility. I have to rework parts of my Barret Wallace costume, but it probably won't get done by the time we do this "practice battle", whenever it happens.

haha, that can be an effect we add in. Or you know, with some of Yuffie's weapons she would just run up an strike instead of throwing it. You could always do that.  ;D

Well, in the game she will have different weapons, and depending on what weapon she will either throw it (pinwheel/rising star/etc) or run up and swing it (like a sword or club).

And then of course, Yuffie is a thief-type, so she is able to steal too.

But in VII everything is based on materia, so anyone can really do anything, heh.

There are her Limit Breaks, though, which are character specific. Yuffie's are Greased Lightning, Clear Tranquil, Landscaper, Blood Fest, Gauntlet, Doom of the Living, and All Creation.

- Greased Lightning
Yuffie does a combination attack, one up close and one distance attack.

- Clear Tranquil
Restores minor HP for the entire party.

- Landscaper
Yuffee slams into the ground and creates Earth damage to the enemy.

- Blood Fest
Yuffie brutally pounds all enemies ten times.

- Gauntlet
Damages all enemies with blue light power. It hits powerfully for special damage.

- Doom Of The Living
Yuffie slashes fifteen times at random monsters.

- All Creation
A massive beam slams itself violently into the enemy party.

So, there are quite a few special attacks she can do.

If you really want to learn more about these, I am sure there are videos of them up on Youtube. It'd be amazing if you actually did any of them in the Mock-Battle. ^_^

Oh wow xD I saw that. It was amazing.
--
Won't this take more than a few hours to film? x.o I don't wanna miss out on the con.

It actually wouldn't take too long. When we did it before it only lasted about 10 minutes. We aren't going to be doing any real scenario like that video I posted, it will just be a battle with different characters. We'll form two parties, good vs. bad, and fight. Very simple.

Well, I basically just want to replicate the in-game battle system. Cosplayers would arrange themselves in two lines, party vs. party, and take turns acting. Call out attacks, magic spells, summons, other activities as they are done (Since there won't be an overhead attack label like in the game).

Other than that, I don't see there being any real structure to it. There can be, certainly, but I don't want to bog it down too much. When it happened before it was very spontaneous and just fun, there wasn't any specific rules about it, just people replicating the game's battle system of takign turns attacking.

I would also like to have the battle theme playing in the background as we play (or even have the saxophone guy play it!). I will be sure to have items to represent the different items needed in battle (potions, phoneix downs, ethers, etc.), so they can be used when needed.

Just basic fun having, heh.

Sweet! ^_^

But the more I think about it the more I think a practice session would be a very good idea. We need to clarify what the expectations are and how to go about it so people aren't confused come Kumoricon-time.

Yeah, just saying that the photoshoot usually has about an hour given it, and of that time only about a fourth of it would be this mock-battle, so...it's doable, heh.

Hmmm...I would think maybe starting with wood and working from that. Make the frame out of wood, (a wooden ring for the center), and then make the blades/edges out of wood and fasten them to the ring, or of a heavy duty plastic.

I've never made a pinwheel style weapon, so I am not too learned in what it takes. But good luck!

I'll be hanging out with all the friends that matter so I guess it will be alright.

I'm not too sure how to make the pinwheel either....though I think there is a link to make something similar to it in the helpful cosplay links in the cosplay board.
