I'll add that if we can pull our minds away from the typical phallic symbol ideology, there are still some very awesome symbols within the world of VII.
It all starts with Sephiroth, his sword is the Masamune, the 7 ft. monster. He is the war hero, the hero of Shinra and everyone's idol. So it starts with him.
Then we have Cloud, with the Buster Sword. Not as long as Sephiroth's, but ten times as wide. A form of compensating, attempting to live up to Sephiroth's status.
Then we have Kadaj, a mere remnant. He is just a child really, with a double-bladed short sword. He cannot live up to Cloud, he certainly cannot live up to Sephiroth, but he will try with all he's got. So in all his attempts to be like Sephiroth, he has a sword with two blades instead of one, hoping to become like Sephiroth with the 7 ft. masamune...but he is only a remnant.
See? Symbolism everywhere, clean symbolism...not dirty Shakespearean stuff, lol
