Nikki, at the nickel arcade meetup, you told me doing a gijinka was fun, and that I should try it. And I couldn't get that out of my head, so I searched through the photobucket link and found a pokemon I could do without buying a wig.

Bam.
Beautifly.

All I need to do is make the hair accessory that looks like Beautifly's wings, and I'm set.
The thing is, I have no idea what to make them out of. I was thinking maybe cardboard, then attach them to seperate hair clips and clip them into my hair. What do you guys think?

Also, you can go ahead and add me to the list as Beautifly. I'm so glad I found my 3rd cosplay for kcon

As for the wings, cardboard would be a good way to make them.

I think I will go with cardboard, but I'm trying to figure out how I would attach it to the hair clips. Glue would most likely fall off, so I might have to sew it. I'll just have to experiment, I guess.

You could also use Ribbon, wire, and felt to make the hair peice. Thats what I was going to do before I changed to mew. : )

Wire! Great idea! I have a ton of felt at my house, so I could construct it out of felt and then use wire to shape it and keep it up, as well as attach it to my hair.

Fleur, for the wings, I'd use yellow or white fabric and dye it. Basically, you cover the parts that you don't want the dye to soak into with hot wax (start with the black dye) then you peel it off once the dye dries. At that point you could just drip the other colors into the spots they belong in, and the black dye will hold them into those spots.

Don't take my word on how to do this at this point, as I just remember it vaguely. I'll see if I can find the book I read about it in if you want to try this method.

A more epic method would be feathers, but that could be very costly, both monetarily and time-wise.

Woah, that is hardcore. The dying sounds really cool, but I've never dyed anything before. I think that I'll stick to felt for now, since I know how to sew that well, but I'll try dying for next time I have an occasion to wear this costume.
I am so tempted to do feathers, but Beautifly doesn't have feathers, I think.

Idk that is a good question. I never found a shiny till i got silver version. so it might have been intertused in SG and C

Shinies did not appear in R/B/Y because they were made for the Gameboy which had little to no color. The first games to feature them were G/S/C.

Found this pretty cool video, it's a Pokemon documentary! I sure learned a few things from it. =) Like, I knew that Pokemon came from bug collecting and battling but this delves into history I had never heard of! So, thought I'd share. <3

Dying's fun. I've tie-dyed a few shirts, and it's gone well. The last one I did turned out perfect. I haven't gotten around to trying any other dying methods, but we've got books around the the house that explain them pretty thoroughly.

For the feathers, I believe the colors on butterflies' wings are made up of tiny little feather-like hairs, so that's what gave me the idea. Something like this is what I was thinking. It would take FOREVER to make but it would look amazing.

(On that note, never use fabric paint on your skin. I used some sparkly stuff because it was space day at camp and I didn't have anything, and it stayed on for two weeks. I think I found one on my arm the other day... Don't do it)

And I am soooo close to finishing the backpack - it needs straps (I don't have any green ones here) and I am still thinking about how I want to install solarbeam. There's a space for it, I'm just not sure hooow I'm gonna do it yet, but I have some ideas. Just gotta decide before I put on the translucent covering for that space.
