Looking at getting a wig for a crossplay, and decided it might be a good idea to get a second opinion on one before shelling out the cash for it.  I'm trying to put together a Hinagiku Katsura crossplay, but have a couple of issues with wig selection.  First, though, a reference picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/snarfjackson/Cosplay/Hina1.jpg

My issues with deciding upon a wig are twofold: one, I'm not sure which shade of pink is closer to the actual character's hair.  The colors I've found so far look - at least on the web sites - too pale or too bright (verging on the neon, for lack of a better term).  So if I were to err on one side or the other, which would be best?

The second issue is that my head is... well, big.  I'm not sure what my hat size would be, but I would definitely need a wig that's adjustable or that has a larger size cap inside it (if that's what you call it).  Does anyone have any reccommendations for where I could acquire such a wig?

At the moment, I'm looking at this wig on Cosworx in terms of length/overall style: http://www.cosworx.com/product.php?productid=26259&cat=2450&page=1

Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Don't use the neon one. Unless it's really supposed to be that way, neon wigs just look bad.
Done: Blue Spirit (A:tLA), Sollux Captor (HS)
will do: Yukio (AnE), Robin (YJ), genderbent Nilus (MAOH), Dave and Signless (Homestuck); other things I'm forgetting

I have a silly question, but I've never done/used this kind of wig before, so I'd like to...get some opinions before I do anything...rash.

Does anyone know of a wig commissioner who is willing to...also commission an accessory along with the wig? (Or, do such commissioners even exist?) I want to cosplay a guy with a hat. And I have no experience in hat-modifying/making, so, I was curious as to whether or not these services existed.

I'm having a hard time finding good pictures of him (:V), but here he is:

http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy194/xXBloody_Vampire78Xx/3-1024x597.jpg
http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy194/xXBloody_Vampire78Xx/Fragile%20dreams/06-620x.jpg
http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy194/xXBloody_Vampire78Xx/Fragile%20dreams/fragile-farewell-ruins-of-the-mo-1.jpg
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q298/SoraXIchigo/Fragile-5.jpg

If not, should I just get a fairly generic (derp) black wig, style it, and then have the hat itself commissioned? I obviously have a fear of hats XD

i think you would be best off buying the wig, and having the hat commisioned if you dont want to do it your self

and also, what are those characters from? They are so adorable! I love the girlyish one's outfit! >.<

Thanks.  ;D I'm searching for commissioners now... Isn't there a section on Cosplay.com with wig/et cetera commissioners?  ??? I could have sworn there was. xD

They're from Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon which I am realizing is like one of the best games ever, orz, and it's totally for Wii XD Do you mean Seto? (They both look girly and yet...not, to me xD I have no sense of girly, orzzz.) I was going to cosplay him until the other guy (Crow) came out of nowhere and decided to...capture my interests moreso. XD

Taking a few more glances at it, the hat doesn't look very hard. But I just...don't want to delve into things I don't understand/have no experience with. xD I think I'd prefer some kind of mesh of wig-and-hat, but, what the heck, is this even possible. xD If so, it'd probably be more trouble than the two parts individually...but, I just feel like wearing two separate things on my head will just be begging for stress from the heat. xD Do hats even work well with wigs? I guess it depends on each the wig and hat, but for some reason I just have this feeling that... it wouldn't. :/ Like it'd be really uncomfortable, or fall off a lot/be loose. I have very bad luck. XD

no its anything but loose xD besides as log as you bobby pin the wig on. you can also safety pin the hat to the wig. My hat doesn't fall off for Ash when I wear a wig with it.

I have this wig

It's already a little thin in the back, and I have really long hair naturally, and It can be pretty obvious since the wig likes to move in front of my shoulders (like in the first pic)
I was wondering, if I brushed it out, would it thicken it, or completely ruin it?
What would happen in general? (this is my first wig, so I dont really know how to treat it)
are there any other solutions?

I'm debating whether I should look for a wig or get my own hair done.
The former would likely be less expensive, and a better investment, though I'm having trouble finding something I can use.
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x245/MooAndAHalf/TelmaConceptArt.jpg
It's more of a thick cornrow than anything, and needs to be pulled back into a ponytail.
So it's a bit complicated. Suggestions?

Oddly enough, I've seen that done with a wig before. It wasn't cornrows per se, it was actually small dreadlocks, but the effect ended up the same. It looked pretty good, too!

IMHO, though, you'll probably be good either way.

So, I seem to have found two equally appropriate solutions. Though I need help to weigh the pros and cons of each.

I found a company that custom makes synthetic dreadlocks of various persuasion. To get a set made in the right color would give me the correct cornrow look, because they're braided into the natural hair. I'd have to sleep with them in, and be careful about getting them too wet when I wash the rest of my hair. My only problem is the price.. a little over $150 I:

Also, I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/RED-IRISH-AUBURN-Hair-Falls-Dreadlocks-Dreads-Gothic-/110550231221?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Women_Accessories&hash=item19bd4ea8b5 Which would also work, if I could style it to my liking and get my bitch friend to do the topical braiding for me. Also there's the freedom to take it down when I so desire. Saves me about $100 to use for other things.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. I'm putting my heart and soul into this event. So far, money hasn't been much of a deterrent. I can't decide really. Therefore, I need a second opinion. Durp.

The ebay majig looks very promising, but that's just my opinion (then again, I'm in the process of doing a Xaldin wig, so I'd trust me xD)

-w- Thank you. So, two fake-hair-competent votes for the cheaper version. Yes, that's helpful. In the case of the ebay ones, I'd be shortening and styling until they looked right. Sort of a hit or miss either way. But as far as that goes I wouldn't be /as/ butthurt by the loss of 48 bucks. P:

I don't think there's a Devil May Cry 2010 thread (I wish there was, though :V. Then again, I'm like 25% blind, and, despite the fact that I looked, it could be there... XD), so I'm not sure where to ask this other than here.

But anyways, does anyone have any suggestions for Kyrie wigs, from Devil May Cry 4? She has both a ponytail style in the game, and...well, her hair let down. XD I'd reaaally prefer it if I could do both. But I don't know anything about ponytail wigs, so.

Some of the pictures are kind of big, so please bear with me if you have slow internet. ;^; Any help would be greatly appreciated~! Thank you. <3

Well, finding a cheaper wig for her hair let down would be really easy, and then style it (bangs). The pony tail one looked good ^^ And the price actually wasn't bad for what it is.

So, I'm in need of a ponytail clip-on, either black or red. I want it to be like those poofy ones I see people use for Miku and Lanalee, etc...And it doesn't have to be that long, since I'm styling it short. If you find one, that'd be great ^^ But mainly I just need help on where to look for fairly cheap ones. Trying for $20 or less.

Alrighty. I just got my wig in the mail today. It's a little more blonde than I expected it to be. It looked more like an orange-ish strawberry blonde on the website, but it came as a sandy blonde. Do most wigs take to dying well? Or are some wigs not meant to be dyed? Also, what's the best way to dye a wig? Can I use regular hair dye? I'm hoping to make it a pretty bubblegum pink. Sorry for all the questions, lol.

Is it kankeloneon? I think that most kankeloneon wigs dye pretty easily.
regular hairdye wont work for wigs cause they are plastic. I just dyed part of my wig and I used sharpies and just colored the wig. it took a really really long time, but i finished xD you can also spray on sharpie dye by mixing sharpies with rubbing alcohol. I cant remember the actually measurements, but i can find them pretty easily. this way is alot faster, but also messier. You can also use FW ink this way.

Hey, I'm sorry to bother you guys again, but I'm having issues with finding a wig that's the right color for Simon from TTGL
His hair is an almost black blue, and if all else fails I think I'm going to resort to tinting a black wig blue with Sharpies or something like that >>

An ebay store called cosplaywig had a 2 really good ones for that. I wanted to buy one for kaito, but the listing ended. I've been waiting and waiting for it to relist, but it hasn't yet. they have two others that are pretty good though. One of them you would have to cut it a bit but its a good color.

Black wigs are the easiest to get for the cheapest...

You need a wig in the style of Scruffy. Would be the easiest, since it's already layered and all you'd have to do is probably style the bangs and fluff out the hair.
You can probably find a used one on Ebay or in the market place of Cosplay.com.

Hahaha, whenever I think of Cosworx's Scruffy wig, I always think of the L, because that's the first one Coco showed me for Bruno... XD I loved it so much that it still kills me that they didn't have the right color... XDD

Thanks~! Checking eBay right now. ;3

I need to grab a wig for my Kida Masaomi cosplay pretty soon and I already have a few that I think could work but there was one I really wanted an opinion on.

Wig

Does it work or no? I know I'd have to do some cutting and adjustments but overall. For the peeps that haven't seen what he looks like here's a front, and a back, picture: Front---Back

Okay cool, thanks dana!~ That makes me a bit nervous with my lack of knowledge in...hair cutting, nonetheless WIG cutting. How exactly do you do that? I feel stupid for asking but I don't know.

^Gradually cut it. If they're really long, first cut off everything you don't want, but longer than you want, so you can trim and make sure it doesn't turn out too short.
