Iiii'm not sure where to post this "issue," but, it's about a wig, so? XD

I had a crazy-styled wig, and I washed it... it ended up perfectly clean and all that, but, the wig-net is REALLY loose now...

Is there anything I can do about that...? Other than cutting the actual elastic thing, taking off some of the material, and sewing it back together? I guess, if that's all I can do, I can obviously do that, but... I'd like to know if there's anything else I can do. <_<

Well, I would recomnend washing it out and using the got2be hair spray instead. But that would suck to have to do that since you got it all pretty......the gel just does that and its more for a whole head styling I think. It's also meant for human hair instead of plastic. Usually you shouldn't be using gel on wigs for this reason...

I don't know if I would get the same effect with the hair spray but I will try. I used both the gel and the hair spray on it.
I have some fibers left over and I was thinking of maybe gluing them over the pig tail so it keeps its shape and has the base color and shine.
I think I might test the spray on them to see if they retain their color. :/

the spray retains the color for sure. I use it all the time on my wigs. And I wouldn't recomend glueing...it turns out looking really bad usually.

Well I wouldn't be doing the gluing. I would bribe my brother to do it. XD He is a master papercraft artist and perfection is a huge thing for him and he works with glue all the time on his crafts. So it would actually come out looking fine because I put full faith in his abilities. ^^


But I will restyle the pig tail then with just the spray. ^^ I will have to do it after I get some progress done on Pikachu for Shay but I will do it ASAP so I don't end up with not having a pig tail. :/

My plan:
Good bald cap, wefts, fabric, a foam tube, and a little bit of red ribbon to wrap it.
Weft a square of fabric, attach it to the bald cap, pull the hair through the tube, wrap the tube.

The only problem I can see with my plan is that the back will be crazy heavy and I'm not sure how to get it to stay on my head. Spirit gum maybe? >>
I've never had luck with spirit gum, but Tommy swears by it, so I could try it...

Be careful with spirit gum and make sure you have the remover close by. Some people are allergic to it so test it on your wrist first.
Also, do your best to not get it in your hair...that hurts so bad when you go to take off something and then realize it was also glued to your hair. D:

Well, it depends on the form of your bald cap.
If you cut it right you can have it come over your hair and onto your actual skin. Then you just Spirit Gum the parts that attach to your skin. And always make sure all of your hair is in a wig cap before you spirit gum the bald cap. The smallest hairs hurt the worst...kinda like how papercuts hurt more than just about anything.

And I really need some help with getting my wig right. I reeeeeeeeeaaally want to use the wig hair and turn it into ears (kinda like in the musical Cats, except not.) but I dont know how to approach it. Also, I've never styled a wig before. So, newbie to wigs needs help plz, kthx?

Alright, I tried the spray and while it still had the shine, it still went to a darker shade than the base wig.
Is there any type of spray or gel that won't darken my wig when styled?

The thing is, these fibers get darker when wet and the spray and gel give it that wet look. So like...as strange as this sounds, I need something like a dry gel or spray.

Yeah but I am trying to avoid completely coating my wig in spray. I know it comes out but I want it to stay the orange I ordered it to be.

thats so weird, everytime I've used this spray, the wig is the same color. Sorry I don't have any more tips for ya ;_;

So my plan was to get two long wigs, a navy one and a pink one, and to cut around the cap of the pink one and sew it to the navy wig. I have never in my life styled a wig, so I'm curious of this will even work. Any thoughts?

@Fleur: Good luck on making the wig! I'm attempting to basically do the same thing you are, but I'm buying two cheap wigs to practice with because I doubt I could get it right the first time... (And woo to Stocking cosplayers!)
And for Gryffinclaw: Where did you order your wig/what is the brand of the wig? There may be some cause in your wig changing shades because of the certain brand it is. Also, is it possible to wash the wig and try a different brand of hairspray/gel to get a better result?

Also, I washed it out and tried the spray and it still didn't work.
And my own freeze spray wouldn't hold it.

Harucha - If you can't get it to stand maybe get one of those curler things old ladies wear in their hair? Then you can use that to wrap the hair and they spray it like that.

true. anywho, i have an issue of my own actually. i need to get a wig, style it like ranmao from kuroshitsuji, and pull it off. I looked online for a ranmao wig, but im not impressed by any of them. I know that if i get the base wig, all i have to do is make her horn thingies and somehow get enough braided wig hair for it to look right.

Base wig shouldn't be too hard. You probably wont be able to find one with the back parted unless you find one that is in pig tails. Then you would cut off the pig tails, glue the stubs so they don't come undone and ruin the look of the wig, and then glue the horns over the stubs.
Or just find a regular base bobish style wig and trim up the back to make it look like...I think it's called a reverse pixie or something? Where it's longer in front and shorter in back...?


If you get a regular base wig, then attaching would be your personal preference.
To make the horns I would suggest getting a Styrofoam cone and wrapping it similar in the way you would an odango bun.
For the braids...they look longer than 24 inches which I believe is the standard length of strands...? It's either 24 or 48.
Either way...if it's 48 unwefted then get the unwefted strands and braid it by attaching one end to a chair someone is sitting in, a bed, or something else stable so you can pull the strands taught. If it's 24 unwefted, then you will have to braid in strands as you go to keep the length going.

Just remember that the braids seem pretty thin so don't try to braid all the strands at once or you will get a pretty thick braid that would not match the character design.
