Haha well I'm not amazing at ratting or teasing, but I'd be willing to help.
...Oh I just remembered that teased wig I tried to do. It's super easy, I already have a comb to use.

The Fantasy Sheep clips don't look as voluminous as Arda's, but they're a lot longer so that probably weighs them down. But yeah the clip looks the same, all clip-on pigtails use that clip.
And since they're that cheap, I might want to order some too so that we can practice together on mine before I horribly mess up your wig. I'm pretty sure it'll be easy, you just pull the top layer back, backcomb and hairspray the hell out of the inside part, then put the top layer back on and hairspray it in place.

I think this one is the best color-wise and it looks closest to Aelita's hairstyle. :)

Does anyone have any suggestion for a Brief wig from Panty and Stocking? I've really only found this wig, but maybe I could style the bangs or cut them?

Hey Guys. I'm going to be cosplaying Harley from Pokemon and I need to find a good wig. The wig I want My mom doesn't want me to get because of how much it is which is $46 http://www.cosplayhouse.com/General-Wigs-Synthetic-Wigs-Light-Purple-Medium-Wigs.html

So I was wondering so should I try and convince her for that wig or this one?

the darker one looks more accurate colorwise(according to the picture), but the character looks like they have wavy hair like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Anime-Cosplay-Wig-Long-Purple-Hair-Wigs-LLA30-/160522541132?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Wigs_Extensions&hash=item255fe3984c

If you were wanting a lighter one, this ones looks pretty good, but the seller is kind of iffy looking...

WHERE CAN I BUY THIS BEARD?

Preferably soon and not incredibly expensive?

Seriously, I am this beard and a pair of pants away from having this costume done for Gallifrey and I want to know if it's doable.

Just get a black beard and paint in the white parts.
Not sure where you could get it, though. I don't usually look for that kinda stuff...

This is my first time using a wig for cosplay (I normally only cosplay blondes so I just cut my own hair), and i'm super nervous about so I thought I would go to the experts >_<
Is it better to cut and style my own wig than buying it pre-styled?
Also I have really long hair, will it fit okay under a bald cap or am I gonna run into problems?
here's the wig i'm thinking about buying from cosplayfu.com:

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna wind up doing...

AS FOR YOU, SORA, I HAVE FOUND THE FOLLOWING IN VARYING PRICE RANGES AND QUALITY RANGES:

http://www.maxwigs.com/china-doll-by-lacey-costume-wigs-p1435.html
This one looks expensive, but amazing. If you're for serious, I beg you, as a wig person, get this one. The others all have dicey looking bangs. Look around the website at the other "china doll" varieties and you'll see what I mean.
http://www.voguewigs.com/bob-special-bargain-lacey-costume-wig.html
This one actually doesn't look too bad and seems to be popular all over the place.
Pretty sure this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/CHINA-DOLL-HALLOWEEN-COSTUME-WIG-BLACK-LY-/170379932344?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ab6f72b8 is a Lacey brand again... but possibly the expensive one, but cheaper?

Also, you're gonna need a low bumpit, which I suggest making out of foam sprayed black and then pinned in and hairsprayed over. I'll help you with that a bit. I also recommend getting an extra weft of black hair to go over the bumpit, but you don't have to, and if you get a nice wig, you definitely won't have to.

I also did some searching for fabrics....

This: http://www.fabric.com/apparel-fashion-fabric-stretch-fabric-lycra-fabric-stretch-duchess-satin-lilac.aspx,
although shiny, stretchy, and purple, is a bit too light, and not glittery enough for my tastes. Low lustre my butt. It'd be an okay extremely last resort. Okay, so not really. But this is all I could find that was shiny, purple, and lyrca. Moving on to the not lyrca...
This stuff, http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=e89cdf00-6513-4f05-b6c0-d95627b1682a,
on the other hand, seems promising. For one, it's called "Make Believe Glitter Stardust Purple". The let down, of course, is that it's technically quilting cotton. Not the best for flexy catsuits... It is, however, more the right colour. And glittery. Which is good.
Next up, this:
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1a4666fd-06d2-45dd-b343-d7b363606c74
Not gonna lie, this **** looks beyond. Until the part where it's 100% vinyl and you'd die. Um. But it looks like laminated glitter! Not what we were looking for either...
So this is a lot harder than I expected it to be...
Um, er, there's this: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2575&PRODID=prd61277,
but it's dotted with metallic dots, not glittercoated like we want... and this: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2575&PRODID=prd33350,
but it's not stretchy at all and it's only Very Shiny, not glittery, and this, too: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=xprd757789,
which... no, wait, that might actually work.

In short, I am officially declaring war on fabric salespeople, and their inherent lack of glittery, stretchy, dark purple fabrics.

Sorry for the somewhat offtopic fabric rant, but... just being too helpful, I guess.

Sora, we discussed this, and the conclusion was that we need to locate some violet lycra and some adhesive spray, and a mountain of glitter.

OH, and as for kiliarara, my vote is always for styling your own wig IF YOU ARE CONFIDANT THAT YOU CAN. My biggest pet peeve is badwig, so if this is your first time trying it, don't start with something like that.

Buy the wig. Get it right, not homemade. If you want the costume to look good, the wig has to look good, and if you don't have the skill to make it yet, which, if this is your first, you really, really don't, then don't do it.

And yeah, that one looks good.

I think with that complex styling, you should buy the pre-styled wig and then you can touch it up.
And if you have a good wig cap, you shouldn't need to worry about having long hair.

So, I'm thinking of doing a Kuragehime cosplay, and I just found a wig that's fairly priced for a what I think is similar to a style Tsukimi wears at some point in the anime.

Does it look similar or am I too into this good price, haha?

Holy crap Merina are you kidding me, I think I have that wig.

...And I'm planning on using it for Tsukimi.
If it is the wig I have, I think it's a bit too thin. Here's a pic, all the hair in the wig is in front. However it's BEAUTIFUL and I love it, so at that price I'd suggest you get it anyways.

And you look pretty in that wig! Hm, well, I agree that it is a bit thin, but I might buy it just incase I can style it for Tsukimi...
(Actually I need a braid wig or extentions to braid my own hair since I want to be grungy Tsukimi the most. Except her first dress is one I really want to cosplay, haha)

I've never had to deal with a wig that was in an updo before, so I'm just kind of stuck on how to approach Jacqueline's hair from Arakawa.

I'm not sure if a bun/base wig set-up would work quite right, but I'm afraid trying to pull a wig up will make everything too tight and fit odd. So any tips an techniques to pull this off or anything would be REALLY appreciated. I have hardly any experience with actually styling wigs. =/

or maybe this? Tho I don't think I can put it in the little bun thing she has.

I know someone got the Leia wig from Arda and styled Beatrice from Umineko from it, you should try that. Arda's wigs are HUGE and are good for styling.

I honestly hadn't even considered just working off of a long thick wig... this also made me realize while I was at work that I have a fairly thick long blonde wig that would probably work for Jacqueline.

The wig was originally meant for my Marie cosplay from Soul Eater so it's pretty wavy, so I'll probably use the hot water straightening method for the first time to get it nice and sleek and experiment with pulling it into a clean bun. I tossed the wig out of the bag for the first time in a year and threw it on really quick to test out if it would work. Ignore the fact that the bun is terrible (literally just threw it up in a minute or so) but I think if I play around with it I can get it to work.

Thanks Katie for the idea! You likely just saved me a good deal of frustration and money on a new wig. =]

I think the second one would work just fine, assuming that it's like how it is in the picture.  However, I have heard good things about ecrater, so maybe you should go with the first one.  Plus, it might be easier for restyling.

Ecrater is a good site. I've already bought from them twice. and With the first one I'd be able to cut it then be able to make a clip on ponytail, so I could switch from Yumi's normal version to her Lyoko version easily. with the short one I think it might end up weird.

Its always best to check the stores feedback first tho. If there's a lot of negativity I wont buy from them..

Okay, I don't have a picture of it yet but I just bought a wig for my Kairi (KH2) cosplay and the wig is much longer than I thought it would be. I knew it would need some cutting but not quite this much, it goes to about midback for me when I need it around shoulder-length. I'm not a skilled stylist so the idea of messing with it when it'd make this much of a difference kind of intimidates me. Any suggestions?

Take it a little bit at a time. Like maybe a half inch at a time. Cut with your scissors up and down, never horizontal. Horizontal will give it an unaturally straight edge. If you get a haircut for yourself before the wig needs to be cut, watch your stylist! It helps a whole heck of alot.
