Restrictions

To attend an event marked age 18+, you must have a hand stamp. ID will not be accepted at the door of the event. To get a hand stamp, please present both your badge and valid government-issued photo ID to the Programming Booth. (There is no exception to the hand stamp requirement for parent accompaniment.)

30-minute line rule: Please do not line up more than 30 minutes ahead of any event.

Entry to some convention events and autograph sessions may require either advance sign-up, or a paid ticket. Please see individual event details for full information.

Guest autographs: Kumoricon 2022 is continuing a hybrid model for autographs where some guest autographs are free, and some autographs will need to be purchased. Each guest will either have all of their autographs free or all of their autographs requiring a purchase. Please visit our autographs page for full details.

All free autographs will be available for reservation prior to the autograph session through a text message reservation system. All reservations are first-come, first-served. Some of the available reservation slots will be open at the start of the convention, and a portion of available reservation slots for each session will become available starting the day of each session. Visit our event reservations page for full details.

Paid autographs can be pre-purchased online through November 10, or purchased at the session.

Kumoricon's Away From Kumo (AFK) Room is a quiet room for all attendees who need to step away from the hubbub of the event, and decompress or relax. The AFK Room is located in rooms G129–G130 in the Ginkoberry Concourse of the Oregon Convention Center (OCC). This is within the OCC's free Wi-Fi zone. In this room, you can work, write, think, chill out, or even doodle as long as long as your activities don't make noise. You are welcome to use electronics as long as they are on silent and do not make noise to use, including loud keyboards and headphones. Please refrain from holding conversations with others in the room, listening to music that can be heard by others, and making phone calls. If you and someone else in the room want to chat, please step out of the room. In the event others are talking or making noise in the room, and you are comfortable reminding them of the rules, please do so. Otherwise contact staff by texting our Yojimbo team at (971) 232-1342 or emailing operations@kumoricon.org.

Cosplay Chess

Come see your favorite characters battle it out on a giant chessboard stage! Cosplay Chess is an event where convention attendees in cosplay serve as the pieces, and at the direction of two chess masters, will move, fight, and die on stage. The combats are not pre-scripted; anything can happen!

Whether you prefer competing as a contestant on stage or viewing the skits and costumes from the audience, the Cosplay Contest is Kumoricon's main costume event where entrants compete for recognition and top prizes. Takohachi Q Ensemble Performance

Takohachi's small ensemble, Tako Q, was launched in 2017 by Yumi Torimaru to provide more intimate and customized performances to meet our community. Q for number nine (after eight, Hachi) in Japanese (九), Quieter, uniQue, Qute, yet Qrazy! Tako Q has established kids' shows for Washington County and Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service in 2019. Tako Q's shows are filled with cultural, educational, and entertaining elements using various Japanese instruments (Taiko, Shinobue (Bamboo flutes), Tsugaru Shamisen, etc.), stories, dances, and singing, from old to modern.

Kumoricon will be hosting a photobooth in the KumoriMarket, where you can get your photo taken in front of a simple backdrop at no cost to you. Cosplay and photography require a lot of time, planning, and dedication, so let photographers at the Kumoricon charity photobooth help make this experience simpler for you. The team working behind the scenes is a dedicated group of cosplayers and photographers who have been in the convention scene for more than a decade. Kumoricon is filled with so many keepsake moments, and we are happy to help you relive and treasure your Kumoricon memories.

Donations are always welcomed. All donations from the photobooth will benefit Kumoricon’s charity recipients: Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and The Greeney Family Fund for Japanese Track Scholarships at The International School.

Join Di as she explores this pocket of history that started in the West and still thrives in Japan.

Kandi Bracelet Making – A Part of EDM and Rave Culture in Japan, the USA, and Beyond

Kandi is a term for (usually) beaded plastic bracelets, customized and personalized, that has become a part of electronic dance music (EDM) culture, and ventures into parts of rave culture as well. While not tied to any one nation, both Japan and the USA have large EDM scenes. Come learn a bit about it while making your own kandi! Keep it for yourself, or potentially trade it at the dance!

Kanzashi Making

Kanzashi tsumami is the art of making three-dimensional flower hair ornaments out of folded fabric squares. Learn to create a simplified variation followed by one of the more difficult petal formations. Tiny fingers may need help with sewing, scissors, and hot glue.

Kumihimo – Braided Cords

Kumihimo is the art of braiding decorative cords, dating back more than 400 years. In this panel you'll be able to create your own braided cord in a hands-on crafting session.

The majority of swing dances began in African-American communities in the 1930s and 40s. The style of swing that we will be teaching is East Coast swing (or single time swing). This dance is fun, bouncy, and easy for beginners to learn.
